பூலித்தேவன்

பூலித்தேவன் (1715–1767^[1]) நெற்கட்டான் செவ்வலைத் தலைமையிடமாகக் கொண்டு ஆண்டு வந்த பாளையக்காரராவார். இந்திய விடுதலை வரலாற்றில் `வெள்ளையனே வெளியேறு’ என்று முதன் முதலாக 1751 ஆம் ஆண்டில் வீர முழக்கமிட்டவர். இதனால் இந்தியாவின் முதல் விடுதலைப்போர் எனக் கருதப்படும்சிப்பாய்க்கலகத்திற்கும் (1857) முன்னோடியாகக் கருதப்படுகிறார்.

என்ற நாட்டுப்புற பாடலை கொண்டு இவரின் சிறப்பை அறியலாம்.

மதுரையில் நாயக்க மன்னர்களின் ஆட்சி 1529 முதல் 1736 வரை இருந்தது. இவர்களில் விசுவநாத நாயக்கர் முதல்வராவார். இவர் 1529 முதல் 1564 வரை ஆட்சி புரிந்தார். இவருடைய ஆட்சி காலத்தில் தான் பாண்டிய நாடு ஆறு மண்டலங்கள் 72 பாளையங்களாகப் பிரிக்கப்பட்டதில்மதுரை,திருவில்லிப்புத்தூர்,திருநெல்வேலி ஆகிய மண்டலங்களில் 18 மறவர் பாளையங்கள் ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டது.ஒவ்வொரு பாளையமும் ஒருவரின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் வைக்கப்பட்டு அவர்களுக்கு அந்த பாளையத்துக்கு முழுமரியாதையும், தனி அதிகாரங்களும் வழங்கப்பட்டன.இத்தகைய பாளையங்களில் ஒன்று நெற்கட்டுஞ்செவ்வல் பாளையம் ஆகும்.

பூலித்தேவரின் பெற்றோர்கள் பெயர் சித்திரபுத்திரத் தேவரும் சிவஞான நாச்சியாரும் ஆவர். பூலித்தேவர் 1-9-1715 ல் இவர்களின் புதல்வராகப்பிறந்தார். இயற்பெயர், 'காத்தப்பப் பூலித்தேவர்' என்பதாகும். 'பூலித்தேவர்' என்றும் 'புலித்தேவர்' என்றும் அழைக்கலாயினர்.

சிறுவயதிலேயே வீர உணர்ச்சியும், இறையுணர்வும் மிகுந்தவராக விளங்கினார். அவர் தன்னுடைய ஆறு வயது சிறுவனாக இருக்கும் பொழுது அவருக்கு முறைப்படியான கல்வி ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. இலஞ்சியைச் சேர்நத சுப்பிரமணிய பிள்ளை என்பவரிடம் சன்மார்க்க நெறிகளைப் பூலித்தேவர்பயின்று வந்தார். மற்ற தமிழ் இலக்கண, இலக்கிய நூல்களையும் கற்று, தாமே கவிதை எழுதும் அளவுக்குத்திறம் பெற்று விளங்கினார்.

பூலித்தேவருக்கு பன்னிரண்டு வயதான பொழுது அவருக்குப் போர்ப் பயிற்சி தொடங்கப்பட்டது. குதிரை ஏற்றம், யானை ஏற்றம்,மல்யுத்தம், வாள் வீச்சு, வேல் எய்தல், அம்பு எய்தல், சிலம்பு வரிசைகள், கவண் எறிதல், வல்லயம் எறிதல் மற்றும் சுருள் பட்டா சுழற்றுதல் போன்ற சகலவிதமான வீரவிளையாட்டுக் களிலும் அவருக்குப் பயிற்சி அளிக்கப்பட்டது.

இவர்கள் முக்குலத்தில் ஒரு பிரிவினர் ஆனாலும் இவர்கள் பெரும்பாலும் தங்களில் வீரத்திற்காக மட்டுமே அடையாளம் காணப்பட்டனர். தமிழில் "மறம்" என்றால் "வீரம்" என்று பொருளாகும். யானைப்படை, குதிரைப்படை, தேர்ப்படை என பல்வேறு பிரிவுகளை போர்ப்படை பிரிவுகள் இருந்தாலும் வெற்றியை நிர்ணயிப்பது காலாட்படையாகவே அப்பொழுது இருந்தது. அன்றைய காலாட்படையில் அதிக வீரமிக்க மக்கள் மறவர் குழுக்களுக்கே பெரும்பங்கு அளிக்கப்பட்டது. செம்ம நாட்டு மறவர்கள் செம்ம நாட்டு மறவர்கள்,இவர்களில் பெண்கள் மூக்குத்தி அணியும் பழக்கம் உள்ளவர்கள். மேலும் இவர்கள் அக்கா மகளை திருமணம் செய்யும் பழக்கம் உள்ளவர்கள் முதன்முதலில் வெள்ளையனை எதிர்த்த மன்னர் புலித்தேவன் இந்த செம்ம நாட்டு மறவர் இனத்தை சேர்ந்தவர்.மறவர் இனத்தில் இவர்கள் மிகவும் தொன்மையானவர்கள்.

1750-ல் இராபர்ட் கிளைவ் திருச்சிக்கு வந்து ஆங்கிலக் கொடியை ஏற்றிவைத்துவிட்டு தென்னாட்டுப் பாளையக்காரர்கள் தன்னை பேட்டி காண வேண்டுமென்ற அறிவிப்பைக் கொடுத்தான். இதனால் வெகுண்ட பூலித்தேவன் திருச்சிக்குத் தனது படையுடன் சென்று ஆங்கிலேயரை எதிர்த்தான்.இதில் பூலித்தேவனே வெற்றிபெற்றான் என 'பூலித்தேவன் சிந்து' என்ற கதைப்பாடல் கூறுகிறது. பூலித்தேவனும் இராபர்ட் கிளைவும் திருவில்லிப்புத்தூர் கோட்டையில் சந்தித்திருக்கலாம் என்றவும் கருதப்படுகிறது.

1755ஆம் ஆண்டு கர்னல் கீரோன் (கர்னல் அலெக்ஸாண்டர் ஹெரான்) தம் கோட்டையை முற்றுகையிட்டு கப்பம் கட்ட நிர்ப்பந்தம் செய்தபோது தன்னுடைய நிலப்பகுதியில் வசூலிக்கும் உரிமை வெள்ளையர் எவருக்கும் கிடையாது என வீர முழக்கமிட்டு வெள்ளையனை விரட்டியடித்து முதல் வெற்றி பெற்றார்.

அதே ஆண்டில் களக்காட்டிலும், நெற்கட்டும் செவல் கோட்டையிலும் நடைபெற்ற போரில் ஆங்கிலேயரின் கைக்கூலியான மாபூஸ்கானை தோற்கடித்தார். அதனை அடுத்து திருவில்லிபுத்தூர் கோட்டையில் நடைபெற்ற போரில் ஆற்காடு நவாபின் தம்பியைத் தோற்கடித்தார்.

1756 மார்ச்சு மாதம் திருநெல்வேலியில் மாபஸ்கானுடன் புலித்தேவர் நடத்திய போரில் புலித்தேவனின் உயிர்த்தோழன் மூடேமியாவை ஆங்கிலேயர்கள் துண்டு துண்டாக வெட்டி எறிந்ததால் மனமுடைந்த புலித்தேவன் போரை நிறுத்தித் திரும்பினார். அதனால் மாபஸ்கான் திருநெல்வேலியை தன்வசப்படுத்தினான். 1765 அக்டோபர் மாதம் வாசு தேவ நல்லூர் கோட்டையைத் தாக்கிய காப்டன் பெரிட்சன் புலித்தேவனிடம் தோற்றான். ^[8]

1760ஆம் ஆண்டு யூசுபுகான் நெற்கட்டும் செவல் கோட்டையைத் தாக்கியபோதும், 1766ஆம் ஆண்டு கேப்டன் பௌட்சன் வாசுதேவ நல்லூர்க் கோட்டையைத் தாக்கிய போதும் அவற்றை முறியடித்து வெற்றி கொண்டார். 1766ஆம் ஆண்டு தொடர்ந்து ஆங்கிலேயரிடம் தலைமைத் தளபதி பொறுப்பேற்றிருந்தவனும், கொடூரமான போர்முறைக்கும் பெயர் பெற்றவனுமாகிய கான்சாகிப்வால் பூலித்தேவரை ஆரம்பத்தில் வெல்ல முடியாமல் சுமார் 10 ஆண்டுகள் போரிட்டு அதன் பின் பூலித்தேவர் தோல்வியடைந்தார். அதன் பின் தலைமறைவானார்.^[9]

நெருக்கடியான சூழ்நிலையிலும் கூட ஆங்கிலேயருக்கு எதிரான போர் என்கின்ற வகையில் உதவ வந்த டச்சுக்காரர்கள் மற்றும் பிரெஞ்சுக்காரர்களின் உதவியையும் பூலித்தேவர் மறுத்துவிட்டார்.

தமிழ்நாடு அரசு திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டம் சிவகிரி வட்டம் பகுதியிலுள்ள நெல்கட்டும்செவல் எனும் ஊரில் பூலித்தேவன் நினைவைப் போற்றும் வகையில் பூலித்தேவன் நினைவு மாளிகை, திருமண மண்டபம் ஆகியவைகளை அமைத்துள்ளது. இந்த நினைவு மாளிகையின் முகப்பில் பூலித்தேவன் முழு அளவு திருஉருவச்சிலை அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. மேலும் இங்கு ஆயிரம் பேர் அமரக்கூடிய அளவில் திருமண மண்டபம் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. பூலித்தேவன் காலத்து நினைவுச் சின்னங்கள் மற்றும் ஆயுதங்கள் பொதுமக்கள் பார்வைக்கு வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
